How to Change the Color of iChat Bubbles

Save

When you chat with people over the Internet using the free iChat application, which is included on every Mac, you see the text that you and your sender type in the chat message window. After you type a message in the text entry box, the words appear in an iChat bubble next to your icon in the chat message window. Your sender's messages appear in an iChat bubble next to her icon. You set the color of the bubble and its text in the iChat preferences, and you can also change the color and text of the bubbles generated by the sender.

  • Click the "iChat" icon in the Dock on your Mac to launch the application.

  • Click "iChat" from the iChat menu, and then click "Preferences."

  • Click the "Messages" tab.

  • Click the "My Background Color" pull-down menu, and then click on a color, such as pink or orange to change the color of iChat text bubbles. Click the "My Font Color" pull-down menu, and then click on a color for the text in the iChat bubbles.

  • Click the "Reformat Incoming Messages" check box to select it, then click the "Sender's Background Color" pull-down menu, and then click on a color to change the color of your sender's iChat bubbles, overriding the color the messages were when she sent them from her computer. Click the "Sender's Font Color" pull-down menu, and then click on a color for the text in the sender's iChat bubbles.

  • Click the red circle at the top of the "Messages" preferences window to close it.
