How to Change Columns From 123 to ABC in Excel 2007

Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet application that uses rows and columns to organize data. In Excel, a row is a horizontal line of cells, and a column is a vertical grouping of cells. By default, rows are labeled numerically while columns are labeled alphabetically. For example, the cell in the top row of the left-most column of the spreadsheet is labeled as "A1." Excel has an optional setting called "R1C1" that labels both columns and rows numerically. If you prefer to use this method of labeling cells, you can access the settings from the Excel user preferences to turn it on or off at any time.

  • Open Microsoft Excel. Click the "Microsoft Office" button at the top of the screen, and then select "Excel Options."

  • Click "Formulas" on the left side of the "Excel Options" window.

  • Remove the checkmark beside "R1C1 reference style."

  • Click "OK" to save your changes and close the window.
