You may be eligible to receive benefits from your home state and the federal government. Such benefits include cash assistance for the poor, disability benefits for the impaired, or money for students. Because of the varied nature of government benefits, different agencies administer different benefits. To apply for benefits, begin by using the official benefits website of the U.S. government.

Navigate to the U.S. government official benefit website. Click "Start Now" to begin determining your eligibility for all available government benefits. You will be able to check which benefits you are interested in. For example, if you would like child care assistance, check the box marked "Child Care/Child Support." Enter other requested information, including your date of birth, income, and state of residence.

Answer all questions to help specify your current situation on the following page. Questions may include your ethnicity and other household information.

Fill out the application and provide all requested information of any benefits you may be eligible to receive. This may include your Social Security number and tax information.
