An international wire transfer is an electronic banking transaction by which you transfer money from your bank account to a designated bank account in another country. International wire transfers allow you to send money quickly and safely. To conduct an international wire transfer you will need some basic information about the international bank account into which you will transfer the money, the associated bank and the account holder.
Things You'll Need
- Account number of receiving account
- Receiving bank's routing number and/or SWIFT code
- Receiving bank's name and address
- Receiving account holder's name and address
Go to your bank. Inform a teller or customer service representative that you would like to make an international wire transfer.
Ask the teller about any fees associated with the international transfer. Most banks charge a fee for this service. The recipient of the international wire transfer may be required to pay additional fees for receiving the money.
Complete your bank's international wire transfer form, including the amount of money to be transferred. Provide the international account number and routing number for the recipient's account. Most banks use a SWIFT code for receiving international transfers. "SWIFT" stands for Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication. Provide the name and address of the bank and the name and address of the account holder.
Give the form to the teller or customer service representative.
Always request a receipt for an international wire transfer.

- Most banks have a cutoff time for international wire transfers. If you need the wire transfer to go out the same day, make sure you go to your bank early in the day.
