How to Set Up Gmail Exchange on an IPhone

Google Sync is a service that allows you to sync up your smartphone's native address book, calendar and email program with your Google account. With Google Sync, any changes you make -- whether they are to your contacts, the calendar on your phone or on the computer -- automatically update on the other device. In addition, any emails you send or receive appear on your phone. Google Sync uses the Microsoft Exchange platform on the iPhone to sync the account. Setting up your Google Sync account is a simple and straight-forward process that only requires a few minutes.

  • Touch the "Settings" icon on your iPhone home screen.

  • Tap "Mail, Contacts, Calendars."

  • Tap the "Add Account" option.

  • Tap "Microsoft Exchange."

  • Enter your full Google account email address into the "Email" field. Leave the "Domain" field blank.

  • Enter your Google account email address a second time into the "Username" field.

  • Enter your Google account password into the "Password" field.

  • Touch "Next" in the upper right-corner of the screen. Allow the iPhone to connect to the Gmail server. A blank "Server" field will appear.

  • Enter "" into the "Server" field.

  • Tap "Next." A new screen will appear.

  • Press the "Off" button next to "Mail," "Contacts" and "Calendars" to enable each one and switch it to "On." Touch "Save."
