How to Change the Partition Name in a PC

When you partition a disk, Windows 7 automatically gives the disk a default name. The name is usually along the lines of "New Volume," which isn't very specific. You may want to change the name to something else, especially if you have multiple partitions. Windows 7's disk management tool provides allows you to change a partition's name. Changing a partition name does not affect any files on the partition.

  • Enter "Disk management" in the "Start" menu's "Search Box." Press "Enter."

  • Right-click the name of the partition you would like to change from the top box. Click "Properties."

  • Click the text box next to the "Disc" icon at the top of the "Properties" window. Press "Backspace" until the name is deleted. Type in a new name, and then click "Apply" followed by "OK." You should see the partition's name change immediately.
