How to Block Facebook & MySpace From My Computer

If you have no interest at all in MySpace or Facebook, or if you don't want your children to access those sites, you can block them with Internet Explorer 9. The Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox browsers do not have a website blocker built into them, but Internet Explorer 9 does. Through the content manager, you can choose to block all Facebook and MySpace pages from appearing on your computer, even if you type in their domain name.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Internet Explorer 9. Click "Tools," followed by "Internet Options."

    • 2

Click "Content," followed by "Enable" or "Settings" if enable is not available. Click "Yes" and enter your content advisor password, if you previously created one.

    • 3

Click "Approved sites." Click the text box under "Approve this website:" and type "*myspace.com." without the quotation marks, but with the asterisk. The asterisk tells Internet Explorer to block the entire MySpace domain, not just the landing page.

    • 4

Click the "Never" button to the right. Repeat the process for Facebook.com, ensuring that you add an asterisk at the beginning. After you add both sites, you should see a red minus mark appear next to both sites in the box below. If this is the first time you've turned on content advisor, you must create a password after you click "OK."
