How to Give Yourself a Buzz Cut

If you need to save money on haircuts, try giving yourself a buzz cut. This hairstyle is one of the easiest to do yourself, since hair clippers are designed to cut your hair evenly automatically. In no time, you'll be sporting a great classic look you'll be proud to show off in public.

Things You'll Need

• Hair clipper kit
• Mirror
• Bathroom
• Shower
• Broom and dust pan
• Plastic bag

Instructions

1. Prepare your hair by washing it and drying it thoroughly, if your hair has product in it, or it's wet, the hair clippers will have a hard time cutting. Comb out your hair to get rid of any knots or tangles.

2. Prepare the bathroom by removing all items off the floor and clearing everything off the sink counter. Strip down to as little clothing as possible: Remember, you will jump into the shower once you've finished buzzing your hair.

3. Choose the length of hair by putting the appropriate guard size onto the clippers. Start with a #3 and if that's too long, you can always drop down a size.

4. Plug the clipper in and turn it on. Face the bathroom mirror and buzz down a clean line from the top center of your head to the back center. Move the buzzer to the left or right a few inches and buzz the next line until half the head has been clipped. Buzz the other half.

5. Buzz the back of your head by moving the buzzer from the back of the neck where the hair ends and up towards the crown of the head. Remove all the hair from the back and feel with your free hand, to find any missed spots.

6. Remove the clipper guard, once your whole head has been evenly buzzed. Carefully buzz the hair around the ears. Do this by folding the top of the ear down towards the lobes and carefully moving the edge of the clipper around to cut the long hairs. Repeat on the opposite ear.

7. Feel the back of your neck for long hairs. Use your fingers as a guide and in a downward stroke, remove the long hairs from the back of the neck. Turn off the clippers and using the clipper brush, clean the clippers.

8. Sweep up the hair off the floor into a dust pan and empty it into a plastic bag. Clean off the sink and counter. Get into the shower and thoroughly wash your head and body of hair clippings.

Tips & Warnings

• Don't worry if the lines around your ears and the back of your neck aren't perfect, the hair will grow back quickly, evening itself out.
