Blocking senders in Outlook Express allows you to automatically eliminate unwanted messages. This feature is ideal for getting rid of messages from senders you do not wish to be in contact with as well as recurring spam from particular addresses. However, this feature does not block the message from Outlook Express entirely. This process automatically dumps the unwanted messages into the "Deleted" folder, where you can access them later if you so desire. This feature allows you to ignore the emails and not perform the extra step required to move the email from your inbox to your deleted items folder.
Launch Outlook Express, and locate an email from a recipient you wish to block.
Navigate to the "Message" menu in the menu bar at the top of Outlook Express. Select the "Block Sender" option. This action immediately inserts the email address into the Blocked Senders list. All emails from this sender will now end up in the "Deleted" folder in Outlook Express.
Block a sender if you do not have one of their emails currently in Outlook Express. Select the "Tools" option from the menu bar at the top of Outlook Express. Select "Message Rules, "Block Senders List." Click on the "Blocked Senders" tab in the dialog box that follows. Choose the "Add" option. Input the email address of the sender you wish to block. Select "OK" to save changes.
Tips & Warnings
- Using the process in Step 3, you can block entire domains, rather than just individual email addresses. The domain name of an email address is made up of the text found after the "@" sign in an email address.
- Double-check that you are blocking the desired email address before adding it to the Blocked Senders list. Otherwise, you might end up blocking the wrong person.
