How to Transfer a MOV to an iPhone

Save

Quicktime movie files with the extension MOV will play on any computer with the Quicktime Player application. However, Apple portable devices, such as the iPhone, must have a specially formatted Quicktime video for proper playback. Fortunately, videos can be converted using iTunes. After importing a MOV file into your iTunes library, you will be able to convert it for proper playback using your iPhone's video player. It is as simple as syncing your iPhone, launching iTunes and making a few clicks.

Things You'll Need

  • USB cable
  • iTunes
  • Open iTunes on your computer.

  • Click "File," then select "Add to Library" to import the MOV video files you want to transfer to your iPhone.

  • Click on the "Movies" link under the "Library" heading on the left side of the iTunes window.

  • Right-click (or "Control" plus click for one-button mouse Mac users) on the MOV video you want to transfer and select "Create iPod or iPhone Version." Wait for the video to finish converting before continuing to the next step.

  • Connect your iPhone to your computer using the iTunes USB connection cable.

  • Copy the video file to your device by dragging the file icon to your iPhone under the "Devices" heading on the left side of the iTunes window. Wait for it to finish synchronizing.

  • Eject the iPhone. You will now be able to play the MOV file on your device.

Tips & Warnings

  • Conversion time will depend upon the length of the video. Feature-length films will take several hours to convert.
