How to Make a Picture Appear on Every Page in Microsoft Word

Save

Microsoft Word documents can be modified to include many different media elements, including pictures. Although you may typically only need to display an image one time in a document, you might encounter a situation where an image needs to be repeated on each page. Fortunately, elements in a Word document such as the header, footer and watermark allow for information to be repeated on each document page. Use a picture in these elements if you want it to appear on every page of the document.

Picture as Watermark

  • Launch "Microsoft Word," or double-click your Word document to open it in Word.

  • Click the "Page Layout" tab at the top of the window.

  • Click "Watermark" in the "Page Background" section of the ribbon at the top of the window.

  • Click "Custom Watermark."

  • Click the "Picture Watermark" option, and then click "Select Picture."

  • Browse to your picture, and then click "Insert."

  • Click the drop-down menu next to "Scale" to adjust the size of the image, and then check or uncheck the box next to "Washout," depending upon how clear you want the watermark to be.

  • Click "Apply," and then click "Close" to add the picture to each page of your document and to close the watermark dialog window.

Picture in Header or Footer

  • Launch "Microsoft Word," or double-click your Word document to open it in Word.

  • Click the "Insert" tab at the top of the window.

  • Click "Header" or "Footer" in the "Header & Footer" section of the ribbon at the top of the window. The header is the portion of the document at the top of the page while the footer is the portion of the document at the bottom of the page.

  • Click "Edit Header" or "Edit Footer," depending upon which option you previously chose.

  • Click the "Insert" tab at the top of the window.

  • Click "Picture" from the "Illustrations" section in the ribbon at the top of the window.

  • Browse to the picture that you wish to repeat on each page of the document, and then click "Insert."

Tips & Warnings

  • Adding a picture to each page of a long document can drastically increase the file size of your document.
