How to Mark Outlook Email Important

Save

If you use Microsoft Outlook to send email and need the recipient of a message to know the content is urgent, you can flag the message as having high importance. Your recipient should see the urgent status when the message reaches its destination. If your recipient also uses Outlook, the program highlights messages with high importance using a red exclamation mark.

  • Click "New Email" in the Outlook window to compose a new message.

  • Complete the Recipient, CC and Subject, fields and type the content of your message in the New Message window.

  • Click the "High Importance" button on the Ribbon menu at the top of the message window. "High Importance" becomes highlighted.

  • Click "Send" to send your message.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can click the "High Importance" button again to remove the importance status.
