How to Check a Shipment Tracking

When you are expecting an important package in the mail, you find yourself wondering exactly when the package is going to arrive. Packages shipped through major shipping companies such as Federal Express (FedEx) and the United Parcel Service (UPS) are equipped with tracking numbers that enable you to track your packages online. If your package is shipped via the United States Postal Service (USPS) and the shipper purchased delivery confirmation or another form of shipment that includes a tracking number, track those shipments online. You must obtain the tracking number of your package from the shipper.

  • Visit the USPS website and click on the "Track and Confirm" link. Enter the tracking number in the box provided and click "Track." View the results to see where your package currently is and the package's estimated date of delivery.

  • Log on to the UPS website and click on the "Tracking" link at the top of the page. Enter the tracking number of your package in the box provided and click "Track". Your package's location and date of arrival are listed for you.

  • Track your package on the FedEx website by visiting the site and clicking on "Track." Provide your tracking number, click "Track" and view the results of your package's location, shipment history and delivery date.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wait at least 24 hours after your package ships to track it; tracking information may not be available for viewing during the first 24 hours.
