How to Turn Off the Wireless on a 2Wire Gateway

Save

Wireless gateways incorporate the capabilities of a router and a modem into one device, which can be convenient both for troubleshooting your network and for saving space. But if you purchased 2Wire's wireless gateway without the immediate need for its wireless capability, disabling the gateway's router function can help decrease the chance of a network intrusion and even save power. With a brief visit to your 2Wire gateway's menu interface, you can turn off its wireless radio.

  • Open a web browser on a computer that's connected to your 2Wire gateway via Ethernet cable.

  • Type "gateway.2wire.net" (without quotes) into the browser's address bar, and then hit the "Enter" key on your keyboard to launch your gateway's interface.

  • Click on the "Home Network" tab once inside the gateway's menu. Click on the "Disable" button, located next to the "Status at a Glance" section and next to the "Wireless" heading on the page.

  • Click on the "Confirm" option when the "Confirm Local Interface Changes" menu pops up. Your gateway's "Wireless" light should turn off.

Tips & Warnings

  • To enable your 2Wire gateway's wireless function, return to the "Home Network" tab. Click on the "Enable" option next to the "Wireless" heading on the page, and then confirm your decision.
