How Do You Clean the Glass of Your HP Scanner?

How Do You Clean the Glass of Your HP Scanner? thumbnail
Smudges or debris on a scanner's glass cause problems with scanned images.

HP scanners allow you to transfer physical pictures and documents to your computer as images. Some HP scanners even feature software that analyzes printed text and converts it to an editable digital document. If the glass panel on an HP scanner is dirty or has something stuck to it, then the dirt, dust or debris will show up on new scans. To ensure quality scans, clean the glass of an HP scanner on a regular basis.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the HP scanner. Unplug the scanner and disconnect its USB cable to eliminate the risk of electric shocks.

    • 2

Spray a mild glass cleaner onto a clean lint-free cloth. Don't spray the cleaner directly onto the scanner glass, as excess cleaner could leak into the scanner and come in contact with electronic components if you inadvertently spray too much.

    • 3

Wipe the HP scanner's glass with the lint-free cloth, rubbing fingerprints or dirty areas to remove them as needed.

    • 4

Wipe the glass dry with a dry portion of your cloth or with a second lint-free cloth. Once dry, reconnect the USB and power cables to your HP scanner and turn the scanner back on.
