How to Record a DVR When Away From Home

A digital video recorder, or DVR, allows you to record television shows while you are away from home or busy with other things. You can then watch the shows you want to see whenever you are ready, fast-forwarding through commercials and pausing when necessary. Many cable and sattelite television providers offer DVR service. However, sometimes you may be away from home when you realize that you have forgotten to set the DVR. Some companies that offer DVR service also offer the ability to program your DVR even when you are not home.

Things You'll Need

  • Smartphone
  • Laptop with Internet access
  • Download your television provider's app to your smartphone if the company offers one. This gives you access to your account.

  • Log into your television provider's website if you are on your laptop or the company does not provide an app for programming your DVR away from home.

  • Scroll through the television listings to find the show you would like to record.

  • Click on or touch the "record" button to record the show that you selected. Some providers allow you to set the show up to record a single show or the entire series.

  • Watch your show when you return home.
