How to Register an AT&T GoPhone SIM Card

Save

A new AT&T GoPhone SIM card comes lodged within a piece of plastic that's about the size of a credit card. You'll need the barcode from this original plastic that surrounds your SIM card to begin the registration process. If you don't have this original plastic, check the front of your SIM card itself or the new phone's package for a 20-digit number that starts with "89." When you find this number, you're ready to register and activate your SIM card, so that you can receive a phone number and establish your account.

Things You'll Need

  • GoPhone SIM card
  • Visit AT&T's "Activate Your Phone" page (see Resources for link).

  • Scroll down to the "SIM Card Number" form field and click inside of the box.

  • Enter the number that starts with "89" into the field.

  • Click "Continue" and complete the registration. At the end of the GoPhone SIM card activation process, a page titled "Activation Successful" will appear.

  • Confirm that the SIM card is active and registered. Look for the following words: "Congratulations! Your phone has been successfully activated. Thank you for choosing GoPhone from AT&T."

  • Select "Print this page" or write down your assigned GoPhone number, passcode and rate plan details.

  • Keep your account details handy. They are necessary for managing your account through AT&T's website.

Tips & Warnings

  • You do not need to reregister an active SIM card for use in a new phone.
  • Call AT&T at 800-331-0500 for SIM setup assistance, if necessary.
