If you are new to the iPad, you may have noticed that adding an email account to your iPad's mail app does not automatically sync your contacts with the iPad's mail and contacts apps. Your email address book requires manual syncing, but the process is easy and fast. The iPad allows you to sync contacts from one or more email accounts on your iPad. If you have the same contact in more than one account, the iPad can merge your contacts for you to avoid duplicates.

Connect your iPad to your computer's USB port with the sync cable included with your iPad.
Launch iTunes if it does not automatically run, and click your iPad's name in the iTunes device list.
Click "Info" near the top of your computer screen, and select "Sync contacts from" or "Sync address book contacts" or the similar option on your computer. Exact wording varies by operating system.
Choose the email accounts or address books from which you want to sync your contacts. If you use Microsoft outlook and want to sync that program's address book, make sure Outlook is running.
Select whether to sync any user images along with the contacts, and then click "Apply" in the lower right area of your screen. If iTunes does not automatically start syncing with your iPad, click "Sync," which will also be in the lower right in the iTunes screen.
Wait for the sync process to finish, and then tap the "Contacts" icon on your iPad to confirm that your address book is synced.
