How to Word Gift Registry Information

Gift registries enable engaged couples and parents-to-be to pick out items they would like to receive as gifts. As friends and family wish to purchase gifts, they can easily access gift registries to find items the registrants selected. When composing shower invitations, include registry information with the invitations. Word gift registry information carefully to help invitation recipients shop for the guests of honor.

  • Compile the gift registry information so you can include it with the invitation. Often a wedding couple or expectant parents may register at several different stores. Get the names of each store from the bride-to-be or the expectant mother. If a gift registry is accessible online, get the website address and the exact information needed to access the registry online.

  • Include a note about the gift registries at the bottom of the invitation if you have enough room below the other invitation information. Write something like, "Sarah and Jim have a gift registry set up to make shopping easier." List the store name, Internet address (if applicable), the registrant name or names and the date (either the due date for expectant parents or the wedding date). For example, you might write, "The Home Store, Sarah Jones and Jim Parker, June 5, 2011."

  • Write out the gift registry information on a separate card if you have several stores to include or if you lack enough space on the invitation itself. Write something like, "Trudy has registered at these stores for baby gear and supplies to make your shopping less complicated." Number each registry separately in list format and include the store name, a website address (if applicable), the registrant name(s) and the date. For example, you might write, "1. The Baby Place, Trudy Smith, May 24 due date; 2. The Baby Connection Store, Trudy Smith, May 24 due date."

Tips & Warnings

  • Including registry information on wedding invitations is not appropriate because the focus of a wedding invitation is the wedding event and not gifts. For shower invitations, however, the purpose of the event is to shower the guest-of-honor with gifts.
