How to Activate Your NetSpend Prepaid Card

Prepaid debit cards are useful for those who lack access to a bank account.

NetSpend is a national provider of prepaid Visa and MasterCard debit cards. The company's prepaid debit cards are similar to a bank-issued debit card in that they can be swiped at any retail outlet that accepts debit or credit cards. With a prepaid debit card, you load funds into the account by direct deposit, at a retail location, through text, or online from another debit or credit card. Many people who have no access to a checking account will sign for a prepaid debit card for the convenience and access to merchants that require Visa or MasterCard.

Instructions

1. Log on to the Internet and go to the NetSpend debit card activation page.

2. Provide the 16 or 20 digit account number found on the front of your card. Enter the 3-digit CVV number, located on the back of the card.

3. Provide the identification information requested including your Social Security number and answers to the ID questions that will be used to identify you as the account holder. Once you have finished the card will be activated to use.

4. Call the toll-free NetSpend phone number at 1-866-387-7363 if you do not have Internet access to activate the card online. The call center is open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Central Standard time, and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Provide the representative with the 16 or 20 digit number on the card and the CVV number on the back. Give the customer service representative your Social Security number and identification information needed to establish the account. At the completion of the call the card will be active to use.
