How to Convert a Foot Into Square Foot

It doesn't take a math whiz to figure out the square feet of an object or a space. A few simple measurements and one calculation is all it takes to convert a foot into a square foot. Whether you need the square footage of a room you are wanting to remodel or for an outdoor area you are planning a garden for, it is ideal to have a quick conversion tool handy for calculations.

Things You'll Need

  • Measuring tape
  • Calculator
  • Use a measuring tape to determine the length of the object or space you want to convert. Write this measurement down.

  • Use that same measuring tape to measure the width of the object or space as well. Write this measurement down too.

  • Multiply the length measurement by the width measurement to get your square foot measurement. For example, if your space was 3 feet by 3 feet, the square footage would equal 9.
