Take your business idea and become a successful business on the Internet.

Building a successful business on the Internet revolves around a sequence of steps. Each step builds on the other by finding out what people are looking for, filling that need and becoming known as an expert in that niche. Take each step and fulfill it before moving on to the next so that you know where you plan to take your online business and how you're going to get there.

Instructions

  1. Research

    • 1

Take an inventory of your interests and know which product or service you are passionate about. This passion will help drive you to be adamant about your online business venture.

    • 2

Visit online forums that relate to the product or service you want to offer over the Internet. In the Google search box type in the product or service and click on "Discussions" on the left navigation panel. This will enable you to know what those potential customers are talking about or troubles they are trying to solve.

    • 3

Determine what keywords people are searching for that have the least amount of competition. Sign up for a Google Adwords account. Click on the "Reporting and Tools" tab and type in a general keyword that relates to the product/service. Look for keywords that have a high search number and low competition. Click inside of the box in front of those keywords and click on "Download."

    Sales Copy

    • 4

Write a compelling headline. Use power words to arouse potential customer's emotion and attention such as "guaranteed," "special," "how to" and "professional." According to the website Information City, "By using benefit-laden power words, your message will draw the click over others".

    • 5

Write the body of the copy by describing the problem your product or service can solve, why you can be trusted, and focus on the benefit to the user.

    • 6

Draft the final paragraph by summarizing the article and tell the reader what to do next. This could include clicking on a link to buy the product or to go to your website to get a free report.

    • 7

Finish the copy with a call-to-action, creating urgency and ask for a sale or for them to get further information from your website.

    Website

    • 8

Keep your website clean by using a sans-serif font, such as Arial, with plenty of white space.

    • 9

Make navigation consistent and clear so information is easy to find.

    • 10

Create a landing page that includes a free gift or report. This will serve as the page that has an opt-in offer so you can begin generating an email address list for further marketing.

    Drive Traffic to Website

    • 11

Write articles about your industry, what's new and how your product/service can help solve pertinent issues. Post them in article directories sites such as Go Articles and Article Dashboard.

    • 12

Set up an Adwords pay-per-click campaign. Use the keywords you downloaded from the research step. The ads will be viewable on search pages immediately and you will be able to work with different keywords to see which ones develop the most clicks.

    • 13

Participate in the forums you initially researched to answer questions and become known as an expert in your field. Always sign your name and website address after any response you post.

    Email Marketing

    • 14

Use the opt-in address list to stay in touch with individuals who gave you permission to send them subsequent emails.

    • 15

Send out informative information about your industry, problems that people are experiencing and how your product/service can solve those problems.

    • 16

Include a "Send to Friends" note on all emails to encourage referrals.

    • 17

Offer loyalty coupons or rewards for those who make additional purchases from you.

    Affiliate Program

    • 18

Promote your product/service through others who will earn a commission to market and sell your product (see Resources).

    • 19

Go to an affiliate marketing website and sign up for an account. Follow their set-up guide to post your product/service with them.

    • 20

Share your marketing materials including articles, squeeze page, and websites with your affiliates. The affiliate will do the advertising for you, saving you time and expense. For every sale they make you will pay them a pre-approved commission.
