How to Store Tubo Cigars
Tubo cigars are cigars sold in tubes made of glass, plastic or aluminum. The tube protects the cigar while it is carried in a pocket or travel bag. Tubo cigars require proper storage to maintain freshness, as leaving them in their containers provides only limited protection. Cigars not kept in a humidor eventually lose valuable moisture and oils and become difficult to smoke. A humidor is a wooden box or plastic container designed for storing cigars.

1
Build a homemade humidor using a plastic food container or purchase a humidor from a cigar store. Humidors keep cigars fresh by maintaining a proper humidity. The humidity allows the cigar to retain oils and moisture for years.
-
2
Create a humidor for under $10 by using a plastic food container with a snap-on lid. Add a disposable humidifying device, available from cigar stores, for under $5 as of 2011. Place the humidifying device inside the food container and snap on the lid to create an instant humidor. Or purchase a humidor and permanent humidifying device from a cigar store starting at around $50.

Remove the tubo cigars from the tubes. Place them in the humidor while keeping the tubes to use later as carrying cases. Some tubes have small slits allowing air to enter the tubes. Store these cigars in the humidor inside their tubes, if you wish. Openings in the tube allow the cigars to take advantage of the humidity inside the humidor.

Check the cigars for freshness occasionally by gently pressing them with two fingers. A properly maintained cigar should give a little when softly pinched.
