How to Send SMS Hearts

SMS is short for "short messaging service," which is also called "text messaging." SMS messages are limited to 160 characters, and unless you have unlimited text messages, your carrier will charge you. As a result, it's sometimes easier to get the message across with a symbol instead of typing out the entire phrase. You can say "I love you" or express affection by sending a heart using two symbols.

  • Open the SMS menu on your phone. Most phones have SMS on the main menu under "Messages" or "Text Messages."

  • Select the option to create a new SMS message.

  • Type the recipient's phone number in the "To:" field. Some phones also allow you to select contacts by name if they are in your phone book.

  • Type the beginning of a heart by pressing the symbol key. On most phones, it's the "1." Scroll through the symbols until you find "<" and select it.

  • Press the "3" key to complete the heart.
