Like many phone and cable service providers, Cox Communications' customers are set up on month-to-month payment schedules, as opposed to two-year service contracts. This alone makes digital phone service terminations and high-speed Internet disconnections simplified and relatively painless. Cox only requires that you contact its Customer Service department to make arrangements for the service termination. The overall process usually doesn't come with any stipulations, making the termination a smooth transition for both the company and the customer.

Contact Cox Communications' Customer Support department at 800-229-6542. There may also be a local Cox Customer Service number for your area (see Resources).

Enter your account information and verify your account through Cox's automated system. Follow the prompts to enter the telephone number on the account and the last four digits of the account holder's Social Security Number.

Press the appropriate keys to be directed to the Account Services department for Cox Communications. Your call is sent to a live Cox representative.

Tell the live representative that you would like to terminate your Cox digital telephone service on the account. The representative completes the termination over the phone.

Return the digital phone modem and any additional Cox Communications equipment to your nearest Cox office location. This equipment needs to be returned within 30 days to avoid additional equipment charges.

Tips & Warnings

  • The remaining balance on the account must still be covered once the service is terminated from the account. Terminating the service does not exempt you from paying the account.
