How to Do Two Ponytails
The style of two ponytails, often called pigtails, came from the term tobacco farmers once used for describing twisted bundles of tobacco crops. The hairstyle was first common only among young girls, but over time women of all ages began sporting this cute and functional hairstyle. You can secure two ponytails anywhere, but the most common and practical location is on either side of the head. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Part the hair down the middle with the fine toothed comb starting at the top of the forehead and ending at the nape of the neck.
-
2
Secure side A (whichever side you like) loosely with a hair elastic. Don't worry about neatness or form, this simply holds the hair in place while you tend to side B that is loose.

-
3
Comb side B approximately 2 inches up from the nape of the neck and below the ear. Hold the position with your hand. Comb the hair higher over the ear for a higher ponytail.
-
4
Secure the elastic around side B. Using your free hand, pull the elastic through the hair, twist and then re-loop the hair back through the elastic.
-
5
Ask the model to shake her head side-to-side a few times. If the ponytail loosens or falls, repeat steps 1 through 4 but twist the elastic and re-loop the hair a second or third time. Doubling or tripling down the elastic multiple times creates a tighter, more secure ponytail.
-
6
Remove the holding elastic from side A in place and repeat steps 1 through 5. Ensure the symmetrical location on the head of sides A and B before securing the elastic.

Tips & Warnings
Tie ribbons in the ponytails for a decorative occasion.
Coil the loose ponytails into buns and secure with bobby pins for sports or dance class.
Stand between two large mirrors and view the back of your head for symmetry while securing ponytails on yourself.
Never use rubber elastics in hair. The rubber coating pulls hair out, making removal quite painful.
