How to Sync Google Contacts & Groups to Your iPhone

The iPhone comes with built-in support for Gmail and Google Calendars. Unfortunately, syncing your Google Contacts is not supported out of the box. To alleviate this issue, Google created a service called Google Sync, which uses the iPhone's Microsoft Exchange option to sync your Google Contacts onto your iPhone and other Apple devices operating on iOS version 3.0 or later. As of April 2011, Google Sync does not have the ability to sync groups other than your "My Contacts" group.

  • Tap the "Settings" icon on your iPhone's home screen.

  • Select the "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" option, then press "Add Account..."

  • Choose the "Microsoft Exchange" option at the top of the screen.

  • Enter your Google account information and leave the "Domain" field blank, then tap "Next."

  • Type "" into the "Server" field, then tap "Next."

  • Flip "Contacts" to the "ON" position on the next page, then tap "Done." Your Google Contacts will now be synced to your iPhone.
