Troubleshooting an HP Photosmart C6280

If you are having difficulty with your HP Photosmart C6280 all-in-one printer and you have installed the manufacturer's software, you can attempt to solve your printing issues by using the on-screen troubleshooting included in the software. If that doesn't work or you do not have the on-screen support, there are a few basic steps you can take that will solve most of the issues that might be causing your printing difficulty.

  • Check your connections. Before you start any more complicated steps, you should start by making sure you have properly connected the cables. The power cord should be inserted securely into the adapter brick, which connects to the rear of the printer. If you are using a power strip, ensure proper connection and power to the strip. Check that the power strip is turned on and that the outlet you are using is not connected to a light switch or that the light switch is turned on. If everything is connected properly, the printer should come on within a few minutes of pressing the "On" button firmly.

  • Check your supplies. Ensure that you have paper and sufficient ink loaded into the printer. If the printer turns on and has the necessary supplies but still will not print, you may need to reinstall the software.

  • Unplug the printer USB cable from your computer.

  • Uninstall the computer software. If you have a Windows computer, uninstalling software can be done by going to the Start menu, selecting "Control Panel" and then double-clicking "Uninstall a Program." Select the HP Photosmart Driver Software from the menu and click "Change/Remove." If you have an Apple computer, uninstalling software is done by clicking "Applications" in the hard drive menu and dragging the HP Photosmart Driver Software to the trash bin.

  • Reboot your computer once the software uninstallation is complete.

  • Turn off the HP C6280 and leave it off for at least one minute. After at least one minute has elapsed, turn the printer on.

  • Insert the HP Photosmart Driver Software disc into your computer's CD drive and select "Setup" to reinstall the software.

  • Follow all on-screen prompts and instructions to reinstall the driver software. Do not reconnect the printer USB cable to your computer until prompted to do so in the on-screen installation instructions.
