How to Add Subcategories in Joomla 1.5

Joomla is software you can use to manage content on a website. If you are using Joomla 1.5 and want to add subcategories to your website, it takes little time to do so. Categories are used to determine under which area a certain piece of content falls. You might want to add subcategories if you want to expand on a particular category. After you add the subcategory, you can add existing and new articles to it.

Instructions

    • 1

Point your browser to your Joomla log in page and sign in with your user name and password.

    • 2

Hover over the "Content" tab from the top menu and select "Category Manager." You are directed to a list of your categories and subcategories.

    • 3

Click the "New" button from the menu at the top right corner of the page. A form opens for you to create a new category or subcategory.

    • 4

Enter the name of the subcategory in the form next to "Title," as well as any other information you want to submit for the subcategory, such as the description or alias.

    • 5

Click the arrow next to the "Parent" form and select a category from the list that you want your subcategory to go under. If you do not select a parent category, the subcategory you want to create will be entered as a category.

    • 6

Select any permissions you want to use for the subcategory, such as whether another user can edit or delete the subcategory. This step is optional (if you don't select any permissions, the default permissions apply).

    • 7

Scroll back to the top of the page and click the "Save & Close" button to save your subcategory. You are taken back to the category list where your subcategory will show up under its parent category.
