If you are planning a wedding or other event, it is important to know the number of days until that event so that you can allocate your time and ensure that tasks are completed on schedule. Even if you are not the one planning the event, knowing the number of days until your graduation or next vacation can help make the time pass faster. You can use Excel to calculate the number of days from today.

Use "Today()" formula

  • Open Excel by double-clicking the desktop shortcut.

  • Type the date you want to calculate to, such as your graduation date, in cell A1.

  • Type the following formula in cell A2:

    =A1-Today()

    This will return the number of days from today's date to the date placed in cell A1.

  • Save the spreadsheet by clicking on the "Save" icon on the toolbar.

Calculate two cells

  • Type the desired calculation date in cell A1 and today's date in cell A2.

  • Type the following formula in cell A3:

    =A2-A1

    This will return the number of days from today's date to the date placed in cell A1.

  • Save the spreadsheet by clicking on the "Save" icon on the toolbar.

Tips & Warnings

  • Using the "Today()" formula will update the calculation each day you open the spreadsheet. Using the two-cell method does not automatically update the calculation.
