How to Add a Copyright to Your Wordpress Blog

Save

A copyright notice is included at the bottom of some blogs to indicate to readers that the posts belong to the owner of the blog. Although this does not stop someone from copying your content, it lets readers know that you own all posts on the blog. You must edit the footer page of your Wordpress blog to add a copyright statement. Accomplish this in the Wordpress blog's dashboard.

  • Open your Web browser and navigate to the homepage of your blog. At the bottom of the blog, click the "Admin" link. A login screen appears. Type your username and password to administrate the blog.

  • Click the "Appearance" section header in the left panel. A list of sub-section links appear. Click the "Editor" link to view a list of template pages.

  • Click the "footer.php" link on the right. This link opens the code for the footer.php page. Scroll to the bottom of the page, where you will place your copyright notice before the closing "</body>" tag.

  • Type your copyright notice directly in the editor before the closing body tag. After you finish the changes, click the "Update File" button to save your changes.

  • Refresh the blog homepage in your browser to view the changes. The blog's footer text is shown at the bottom of the homepage and any of the inner pages.
