How to Make Firefox Open a New Tab When Opening a Link Within a Web Page

Mozilla Firefox includes a tab bar which appears at the top of the Firefox browser window. Firefox can open links in new tabs instead of new windows on your desktop, allowing you to switch between open Web pages from within the Firefox window and reducing desktop clutter. This option is located in the options window. In addition to enabling this option, you can also open individual links in new tabs with a variety of shortcuts.

  • Click the "Firefox" menu button at the upper-left corner of the Mozilla Firefox window.

  • Click "Options" in the Firefox menu.

  • Click the "Tabs" icon at the top of the options window.

  • Click the "Open New Windows in a New Tab Instead" checkbox if it's unchecked.

  • Click "OK."
