In the winter, peaches are not as easy to grow in some regions and can become very pricey to buy because they are out of season. Buying a batch of peaches while they are cheap and in season in the summertime will enable you to freeze them to use at any time of the year. Since peaches will turn brown if exposed to air, many people freeze them in a sugary syrup. However, there is another method you can use to freeze the fresh peaches without using sugar.
Things You'll Need
- 1 qt. container with air-tight lid
Slice the peaches and pack them in a 1 qt. container until they reach 2 inches below the top of the container.
Cover the peaches with water until the water line is 1 inch away from the top of the container. Secure the air-tight lid to the container.
Place the container in the freezer and allow to freeze solid. When you wish to use the peaches, simply lay them out until the water thaws enough to remove the peaches.
Tips & Warnings
- Make sure to freeze quality peaches that are ripe and ready for consumption. The freezing process will halt whatever stage the peaches are in, therefore they will not be able to ripen any more once frozen.
- Without sugar mixed into the water, the peaches will appear slightly darker than usual.
- The peaches can be frozen without sugar for 3 to 6 months.
