How to Morph Shapes in After Effects

Save

Adobe's After Effects is a powerful video editing program that can be used to create various special effects. The software includes the Mesh Warp tool that allows you not only to distort and warp an object, but also animate it at the same time. The Mesh Warp effect is commonly used to turn text into smoke, morph one object into another or animate still images.

Things You'll Need

  • Adobe After Effects
  • Open your shape in a new composition in After Effects.

  • Select your shape, then open the "Effects" menu. Locate "Distort" on this menu and select "Mesh Warp" on the distort sub-menu. Open this sub-menu by hovering over "Distort" on the "Effects" menu.

  • Add a key frame at the beginning and end of the composition's time line.

  • Move the slider to the end of the time line, so that it lines up with the keyframe. Click and drag any point on the mesh grid that overlays the image to distort that section of the photo. This will create a morphing effect as the photo changes from its original state to the new one. Click the play button in the preview panel to view the morphing effect.
