A large number of software applications are available for the iPhone through the online iTunes App Store, allowing the device to create, edit, save and share many different types of files. Files such as images, videos, word processing documents and e-books are compatible with computers, so being able to transfer them from the iPhone to a PC is useful for viewing or further editing on the desktop. The iTunes multimedia management software allows your iPhone and PC to share and synchronize these files.
Things You'll Need
- iPhone USB cable
Install the latest version of iTunes on the PC, following the installation instructions detailed on the Apple website. Once installation has completed, launch iTunes by clicking its entry in the PC's Start Menu.
Connect the iPhone to the PC using its USB cable. ITunes will detect the connected iPhone and add it to the "DEVICES" section in its left-hand column.
Select the iPhone entry in the "DEVICES" section of iTunes, and then click the "Apps" tab in the main iTunes window.
Scroll down to the "File Sharing" section at the bottom of the "Apps" tab.
Select the relevant application from the "Apps" box for the type of files you want to transfer from the iPhone to the PC. A list of files associated with that application will appear in the "Documents" box to the right.
Drag and drop the required files from the "Documents" box in iTunes to a folder on the PC.
Tips & Warnings
- Files can also be transferred from the PC to the iPhone using this same method, only by dragging files from the PC's folder into the iTunes "Documents" box.
