Adding ears to a hooded sweatshirt is an inexpensive and easy way to make a fun garment for young children or a quick Halloween costume for people of all ages. The ears can be modeled after any type of animal and can be matched to a similar color of pants or gloves. You can easily create an animal costume in minutes.
Things You'll Need
- Hooded sweatshirt
- Sewing machine or needle and thread
Plug in your iron and allow it to heat up to the hottest setting. Choose a piece of felt that matches the color of your sweatshirt. Use a pair of scissors to cut out two ear-shaped pieces from the felt, leaving 1/2-inch of extra fabric on the bottom of each felt ear.
Take one of the felt ears and fold the extra 1/2-inch of fabric under the rest of the ear. Iron over the crease where the extra fabric is tucked under to press it. Once you have ironed the felt, press the extra piece of felt 90 degrees apart from the rest of the ear, so that when the bottom piece is flat against a table, the ear stands up vertically. Repeat with the other felt ear.
Thread your needle or turn on your sewing machine. Pin the pressed 1/4-inch of felt on to the hood of your sweatshirt. Make sure the ears are in the correct position.
Sew the ears to the hood of the sweatshirt. Put on the hoodie to make sure the ear placement is correct. Remove the pins and wear.
