How to Make Your Own Spy Cam
Purchasing a high-end spy camera is costly; however, you don't need to break the bank to get the advantages of a discreet camera set-up. Whether setting up a stationary camera to watch over a room as a nanny cam or looking to create a mobile spy camera for an undercover taping, a cheap external spy camera can be altered in just a few minutes, allowing you to record footage around the camera without it being detected.

Remove any screws holding the Web cam casing together.

Pry the case of the Web cam apart, being careful not to be too rough and damage the lens or circuitry with your screwdriver.

Remove the lens and circuitry from the case.

Cut a hole large enough for the lens of the camera to fit inside the item in which you will be hiding your camera. A shirt pocket makes for a good hiding place for a mobile camera, while replacing the eye of a stuffed animal allows for a clever disguise for a stationary camera.

Cut a second hole in the item for the cord. For a shirt, the inside of the shirt is the best outlet, while a stationary item like a stuffed animal is best served with a cut in the bottom of the back of the item.

Position the camera lens in the first opening you cut, and thread the USB out the second hole.

Remove the border around the lens if the camera is easier to hide without it. In some cases the plastic rim may help the item to blend in better.

Plug the USB into a computer and begin recording.

Tips & Warnings
If using your camera as a mobile cam, setting your computer to remain active with the screen closed allows you to carry the camera around in a computer bag on your hip and film as you walk about.
