How to Convert Text to Outlines in Acrobat

If you attempt to open an Adobe document or image file on your computer and don't have the font installed that was used when the file was created, your Adobe program will convert any text to the closest font match available. Unfortunately, this conversion can create layout and readability issues. The problem can be avoided by converting the text to outlines in Adobe Acrobat, which changes the text into vector objects, which display the same on virtually all computers.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch Adobe Acrobat. Click the "File" menu and choose "Open." Locate the file that contains the text your wish to convert to outlines on your hard drive and click to select it, then click "Open."

    • 2

Click the "Tools" menu, then click "Pages," "Watermark" and "Add Watermark."

    • 3

Type any text you wish in to the "Text" field. Click and drag the watermark opacity slider to "0%" opacity. Click "OK."

    • 4

Click the "Tools" menu. Click "Print Production" and "Flattener Preview." Click to select "Convert All Text To Outlines." Click "OK."

    • 5

Click the "All pages in document" radio button. Click "Apply."

    • 6

Click the "File" menu and choose "Save As." Type in a save name, then click the "Save" button.
