How to Make Twig Crafts

How to Make Twig Crafts thumbnail
Collect twigs to make inexpensive crafts.

Bring the natural beauty of the great outdoors into your home with a few simple twig crafts. If you cannot find twigs in your own yard, stroll through a park and look for them on the ground underneath trees. In addition to collecting twigs, look for other natural items such as pine cones, acorns, leaves or bark. You can use these items to decorate your twig crafts while maintaining the natural look of the item.

Instructions

  1. Picture Frame

    • 1

Choose a picture to use in your twig picture frame. You may want to make a copy of the picture because you will not be able to remove it from the frame later.

    • 2

Cut a piece of felt 2 inches taller and 2 inches wider than your picture. This will create a 1-inch border of felt around the picture.

    • 3

Attach the picture to the center of the felt with hot glue.

    • 4

Arrange a twig over each edge of the picture to create a frame. Glue the twigs into place when you are satisfied with their position.

    • 5

Attach acorn caps, small pine cones or any other natural material with hot glue to decorate your homemade picture frame.

    Twig People

    • 6

Collect twigs of various sizes and shapes to use as bodies, arms and legs for your twig people. You will also need small stones to form heads.

    • 7

Connect the twigs with hot glue and create the basic shape of a person.

    • 8

Draw a face on a small stone with a marker and attach it to your twig person with hot glue.

    • 9

Attach pine needles, leaves, seeds or other natural material to your twig people with hot glue to create hair or clothing.

    Pencil Holder

    • 10

Wash an empty soup can thoroughly with hot, soapy water and dry it with a clean towel.

    • 11

Wrap a piece of brown paper around the outside of the can and secure it with a few pieces of clear tape.

    • 12

Cut twigs so they are approximately 1 inch taller than the can. For example, if the can is 4 inches tall, your twigs need to be 5 inches tall.

    • 13

Attach the twigs to the brown paper with craft glue so the twigs extend past the top of the can. Continue to attach twigs until you cannot see the brown paper.

    • 14

Wrap a few rubber bands around the pencil holder to hold the twigs in place until the glue dries.
