Save

One of the easiest and least expensive ways to decorate for any party or event is to use a combination of balloons and streamers. Balloons and streamers instantly add a festive vibe to any occasion. There are nearly unlimited ways to decorate with balloons and streamers, both alone and in conjunction with one another. Consider the colors that will go best with the party theme when choosing balloons and streamers to use.

Things You'll Need

  • Stepladder
  • Streamers in party colors
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Balloons in various sizes
  • Helium tank
  • Ribbon
  • Balloon weights
  • Decorate with the streamers first. The streamers make the background for the balloons. Using a stepladder, hang three or more colors of streamers from one corner of the room. Bring the streamers to the middle of the room, draping the streamers slightly to create a swag effect. Cut the streamers. Twist the streamers together several times and tape to the center of the ceiling. Repeat for all other corners of the room.

  • Hang loose streamers from doorways and windows. Tape the streamers to the top of the window or doorway and allow the other end of the streamer to float free. Attach a bundle of several streamers to the mailbox to mark the party house.

  • Cut three or more streamers and tape swag-style across windows or large doorways.

  • Blow up several balloons using regular air. Tape bundles of two or three similarly sized balloons to the sides and middle of the streamer swags. You can also tape balloons to the mailbox, the backs of chairs and toss some randomly around the room.

  • Blow up five or seven balloons with helium to make a balloon bundle. Tie ribbon to the balloons to hold them in place. Attach balloon bundles to chairs or other objects around the room. Use balloon bundle weights to hold balloon bunches on the ground. Use a balloon weight and short ribbons to hold helium-filled balloons on tables for centerpieces and other decorative arrangements.

  • Make balloon animals from long balloons and place them on tables and other surfaces as decorative objects and centerpieces.
