How to Save Chat History in MSN Web Messenger

Windows Live Messenger, formerly known as MSN Web Messenger, is a free, widely used instant-messaging service developed by Microsoft. Windows Live users can chat with other registered users of the service via the free chat application Microsoft provides for downloading. If you chat using Windows Live, you may find it necessary to save your chat history in viewable logs on your hard drive.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch the Windows Live Messenger software on your computer. If the software doesn't log you into your account automatically, enter your user name and password to log in manually.

    • 2

Click "Tools" and then click "Options" in the drop-down sub-menu.

    • 3

Click the "History" tab in the dialog window that pops up.

    • 4

Check the box next to "Automatically Save My Conversation History."

    • 5

Click the "OK" button to save your new settings.

Tips & Warnings

  • Below "Automatically Save My Chat History" in your History Options, you can see the directory on your hard drive to which Windows Live will save your chat history logs by default. Change this directory, if desired, by clicking the "Browse" button and double-clicking on the directory you prefer.
