It's common for a dog to get fleas.

Fleas are a problem for nearly all dogs at one point or another, but chemical flea treatments can be harsh, and you might not want to use them on your pet. The good news is that there are several essential oils that are effective in removing and repelling fleas, and you can utilize these in making a natural flea shampoo with which to treat your dog.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure out the 17 fluid oz. of liquid castile soap and pour in in a mixing bowl. Castile soap is an all natural variety of soap, made from olive oil.

    • 2

Add 5 drops each of lavender and cedarwood essential oils to the castile soap in the mixing bowl.

    • 3

Squeeze half a lemon into the mixture and stir it all together with a spoon. You can now use the shampoo on your dog.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use the shampoo once every two to three months, bathing your dog any more frequently than that can strip the natural oils from its coat.

  • Garlic is a natural preventative for fleas, so feed your dog 1/2 a clove twice a week in its dinner to deter fleas.

  • Although safe for dogs, essential oils are poisonous to cats, so do not use this of any felines.

  • Be careful not to get the shampoo in your dog's eyes when you bathe it, as this can cause stinging.
