According to Marie Claire magazine, the even proportions of an oval face make it the most versatile--and therefore often the most desirable--of all face shapes. Unfortunately, for those not blessed with an oval visage, the shape of your face is mainly down to bone structure and genetics, and even dieting often does little to alter it. Forget about extreme dieting and surgery, and learn temporary tricks that are extremely effective in making your round face appear slimmer.
Things You'll Need
- Hair color
- Large makeup brush
- Dark eye makeup
- Long dangling earrings
Layer your hair, so the layers can be curled slightly toward the face to cover its edges. Part your hair slightly to the side to play down the circular symmetry of the face. Gather hair on the top of the head in a loose ponytail and use your fingers to tease out strands to frame your face. Avoid crops or extremely short bobs; medium (just above shoulder-length) to long hair is best for a round face. Avoid blunt-bangs cut straight across the forehead. Color your hair with highlights or low lights to create contrast and shading, which has a slimming effect. Use hair products that are suitable for your particular hair type to get the very best out of your hair; ask your stylist to recommend specific products for your hair.
Look in the mirror, suck in your cheeks and sweep bronzer, using a large, full make-up brush, under your cheekbone area to shade, contour and slim your face. Apply it around the sides of your hairline and under your chin, making sure you blend it in well so you are not left with dark strips or blocks of color. Do not apply bronzer to your nose. Apply dark eyeshadow, eye liner and mascara to make your eyes look farther back.
Put on long, dangling earrings, which will draw the eye down and create the illusion of a slimmer face. This works well in combination with an updo, such as a high ponytail or relaxed bun. Avoid wide earrings that will add width to the face, and tight, choker-style necklaces that will make the neck look shorter.
