How to See a Live Cricket Match

Save

The first international sporting event of the modern era was a cricket match between the U.S. and Canada held in 1844. In January 2015, you have options. More than 1,000 clubs gather to play in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C. You can watch cricket matches live-streamed to your computer, tablet or phone. You can even hunker down in front of the television and watch the International Cricket Council championships on ESPN.

In Person

  • Find a match you can attend, if you want to see cricket played in person. Go to the USA Cricket Association's league overview website page to determine the USACA region to which teams in your state belong. Armed with this information, go to the USACA league website page and click on your region to locate the website of a league near you. Then, check the league site you've chosen for their playing schedule and the dates and locations of the matches.

The Season

  • The U.S. cricket season nominally runs from New Year's Day until the National Championship matches in August. The 10-team cricket league headquartered in Tucson, Arizona, however, plays only during the winter months, making cricket a year-round sport in this country. Teams in the U.S. play the Twenty20 form of the sport. This form doesn't last for one or more days; rather, the game wraps up after "one innings per side, each innings being limited to 20 overs." That means each side has a turn at bat and each side's turn at bat ends after the ball is thrown 120 times by six different bowlers.

Via Your PC

  • You can watch cricket live on your computer, tablet or other mobile device through a wide variety of websites on almost any day at almost any hour. Several sports networks stream live cricket for cable and satellite TV subscribers willing to pay the additional monthly charges to their basic service bill. You may be able to access this programming by logging onto your service's website, or you may have to go to the individual sports channel, such as Willow TV or ESPN 3.

On Television

  • In the United States, only one television network covers the sport live. Headquartered in Palo Alto, California, Willow TV is a "cricket only" channel. Available to U.S. subscribers to Direct TV, Time Warner Cable, Comcast, Cablevision, Cox Cable, Dish TV, Verizon, Bright House, Dishworld and Charter Communications, the network provides live cricket as its only fare. Willow TV is also available in high definition to subscribers of five of those providers: Dish, Verizon, Dishworld, Charter and Bright House.
