For many, Vetrazzo countertops are a breath of fresh air after years of granite around every kitchen corner. With bright colors, rustic, chunky glass patterns and a feel comparable to natural stone, these 85 percent recycled glass countertops are undeniably eye catching and unarguably more expensive than their granite counterpart. Granite countertops average about $60 to $120 per square foot while Vetrazzo starts at about $175 per square foot and goes up from there, depending on color selection and the complexity of the job, says Elliot Koppet, a professional sales representative at Ecohaus, a Vetrazzo retailer.
Go to a retail store that offers granite or Vetrazzo and pick out the color and pattern that appeals to you and fits your room and budget. This decision can can make more than a $20 per square-foot difference in the cost of goods for both products.
Request a measurement and estimate from the stores you decide offer the best selection and customer service. Estimates should allow for multiple color, edging and backsplash options so you can compare prices and see what best fits your budget.
Choose the product, color and style you want in your home. The choices made between low-end granite with an eased edge and no backsplash and high-end, splashy-colored Vetrazzo with a backsplash is the difference between $60 per square foot and $215 per square foot, says Ecohaus' Koppet.
