How to Get Rust Off Chrome Rims

Chrome rims are prone to rust.

Chrome rims are popular with car owners because of their sleek and attractive shine. Chrome is also low maintenance so it is also easy to clean. If a car owner does not remove the rust on the rims, the rust only grows larger until it forms rust holes. These rust holes are not only eye sores but they also ruin the structure of the rims. To keep the car in top condition, remove rust from the chrome rims on a regular basis.

Things You'll Need

• Scrubbing pad or steel wool pad
• Rust remover
• Rags or cloths

Instructions

1. Scrub off the rust with a scrubbing pad or steel wool pad. The surface rust and small rust spots are easy to remove by scrubbing.

2. Pour a commercial rust remover onto a steel wool pad.

3. Apply the rust remover to the chrome rims. Commercial rust removers have acids that dissolve rust.

4. Leave the rust remover on the chrome rims for 10 to 20 minutes. The extent of the rust determines how long you should keep the rust remover on the rim.

5. Wipe off the rust remover and the rust by using rags or cloths. Make certain to remove all traces of the rust remover from the chrome rim.

Tips & Warnings

• Put on rubber gloves before handling the commercial rust remover.

• Have plenty of ventilation when using the rust remover.
