How to Fix Color Markers
Colored markers can last several years if they are properly taken care of. If the caps are not replaced on the markers when you're through using them or if they are left out in the sun, the marker tips will dry out. Once dried out, the colored marker will barely work. If all of your markers have dried out from simply being old, go ahead and buy a new set of markers. If only one or two markers have dried out, save your money and fix the markers yourself. With one simple trick, you'll get the markers working in just seconds.

1
Pour 1 tsp. of lukewarm water into a small dish or bowl. A 1-ounce glass or even bottle cap will work the best.
-
2
Dip the tip of the colored marker into the water. Hold the tip under the water for 20 seconds. The water will absorb into the tip and through the color stick located inside of the marker.

3
Test the marker on a sheet of paper to ensure it has started to work properly. If so, place the cap on the marker and set it aside. If the marker does not start working right away, repeat Step 2. Change the water after each marker. If you have permanent or solvent-based colored markers, skip to Step 4.

4
Pour 1 tsp. of rubbing alcohol into a small dish or bowl.
-
5
Dip the tip of the permanent or solvent-based colored marker into the alcohol. Hold the tip under the water for 10 seconds.
-
6
Test the colored marker on a sheet of paper to ensure it has started to work properly. Again, change the alcohol after each marker.
