How to Fix a Nissan Murano Door Handle

The exterior door handle of the Nissan Murano is attached to the door panel with a bracket on the inside door frame that is attached to the door handle with screws. Occasionally, due to the design of the exterior door handle, it can break, requiring that the handle be replaced. You can replace the door handle fairly easily in about half an hour with a few common household tools, saving you time and money.

Things You'll Need

  • Small standard screwdriver
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Masking tape
  • Pry the interior door handle cap off the door panel gently with a small standard screwdriver and unfasten the screws behind the cap with a Phillips screwdriver. Remove the door handle cap and unfasten the screws holding the armrest onto the door panel with the Phillips screwdriver.

  • Take the armrest off the door panel and lift the window switch plate off the door panel with the small standard screwdriver. Unfasten the electrical wire connector on the back of the switch plate and set the plate out of the way.

  • Pry the plastic clips that hold the door panel to the door frame up gently with the small standard screwdriver and remove the door panel from the door frame. Pull the plastic liner back inside the door frame and locate the exterior door handle bracket inside the door frame, behind the door handle.

  • Unfasten the screws on the bracket that are holding the exterior door handle to the door with a Phillips screwdriver and unhook the wire latch from the end of the handle. Remove the door handle from the exterior door panel.

  • Connect the wire latch to the end of the new door handle and fasten the handle to the exterior door panel with the screws on the inside bracket. Place the plastic liner back on the door frame with masking tape and set the interior door panel on the door frame, securing it by pressing in on the plastic clips.

  • Reattach the electrical wire connector to the back of the window switch plate and fasten the switch plate to the interior door panel. Attach the armrest to the door panel with screws and fasten the door handle cap to the door panel with the screw.
