How to Update Your Status in Facebook

Save

Facebook status updates let you share your thoughts with your friends. While status updates were originally a way to inform your friends of what you were doing at the moment, status updates have evolved into a way to share any type of thought or message. Your status message appears on your wall and your friends' news feed page. Friends can "like" your status post or add comments of their own. You can update your status message directly on Facebook's website.

  • Open Facebook.com in your Web browser.

  • Log in by typing your email address and password into the boxes at the top-right corner of the Facebook page and clicking "Login."

  • Click the "News Feed" link at the left side of the Facebook page.

  • Click the "What's on your mind?" box under "Status" in the middle of the News Feed page and type your status update.

  • Click the lock-shaped button under the text box and select a privacy setting in the list. You can select everyone, friends of friends or friends only. You can also click the "Custom" option to customize specific users that can and can't see the status update. Only your friends can read the status message if you don't select a privacy setting.

  • Click the "Share" button.
