How do I Construct Large Metal Sliding Doors?
A sliding metal door is a convenient choice for an outdoor structure. It allows for the door to be opened even when objects are in front or behind the door. In inclement weather, it can still open with minimal effort. One large door can be heavy and cumbersome to move, so a two-door opening may be better, with the doors meeting in the middle. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Measure the opening for the doors and divide by two. Cut the doors out of metal to fit. Allow for a 2-inch overlap on the height.
-
2
Add rollers to the top and bottom of the doors. Place the rollers 6 inches in from each side and space the remaining rollers across the doors about 12 inches apart. Place the rollers 1 to 2 inches down from the top side. Attach them to the doors with galvanized screws.

3
Measure the track and cut to fit. The track should be double the width of the opening.
-
4
Line up the middle of the track with the middle of the opening. Mount the upper track first. If the track doesn't have holes in it already, drill holes with a metal drill bit. Attach with bolts after checking for levelness.
-
5
Drop a plumb line from the middle of the upper track. Position the bottom track in place. Make certain it's level and bolt it into place.
-
6
Hoist the doors one at a time into a vertical position and let each slide onto the track.
-
7
Cap both ends with end cap hardware. Place a center stop bracket where the doors will meet. Attach door hardware for ease of opening and locking the structure when not in use.
